In a striking move, Tory Burch has introduced a fresh, concept-driven design at its boutique on Rue Saint Honoré in Paris. The store now features the distinctive touch of German photographer Walter Schels, whose animal portraits not only grace Tory’s Resort 2024 collection but also a special capsule collection released this summer.
Drawing inspiration from the brand’s recent concept stores on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles and at the Kerry Centre in Shanghai, both created in collaboration with Humberto Leon, the Paris boutique’s design merges the vibes of Los Angeles and Shanghai with Parisian elegance.
Tory Burch was captivated by Schels’ work years ago when she stumbled upon his animal portraits. “There’s a humane element in Walter’s photos. He looks at the animals, and they look back at him,” she remarked. “He treats them with the same respect as humans, highlighting their unique personalities and emotions.”
Schels, who began photographing animals in his childhood, shared, “Animals were my companions during my childhood, and I’ve always felt a strong bond with them. They don’t pretend to be something they’re not. They don’t question their beauty or feel shame. They exist as they are.”
The boutique’s foyer is adorned with repeated cat motifs on the walls, while the floors and display shelves are covered with long-haired carpets shaped like cat towers. Humberto Leon invited Aranza Garcia from Chuch Estudio in Merida, Mexico, to create a series of pink ceramic pedestals, arranged in sets of nine. These pedestals showcase key pieces from the Spring/Summer 2024 collection, nestled on long-haired carpeted wall shelves and hanging racks, creating a harmonious blend of art and fashion.
