The Association of Contemporary Art in Provence, boasting 62 members, stands as one of France’s largest networks of art structures. Operating year-round, the association offers residencies for emerging and established artists and supports a multitude of visual artists’ projects through structured programs.
Since 2007, the association has launched a spring event known as Printemps de l’art contemporain (Spring of Contemporary Art). The 16th edition, taking place from May 2nd to May 18th, 2024, will focus on performance art.
Among the 160 participants listed on the pac.fr website, Santiago Reyes is an artist accustomed to acting in public spaces. He has responded to the global restrictions on the right to protest, which is also evident in France. In France, protesters are often viewed as violators of public order and are promptly brought to trial.
Therefore, on May 5th, at the invitation of Tchickebe Studio and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Marseille, the artist will present “Infinite Trajectory,” a manifest form of expression. During this time, Reyes, accustomed to acting in public spaces, will transform the dynamics of protest into individual acts of a single participant, exposing himself through a series of gestures and images. He will navigate various situations encountered along a 7-kilometer route of streets, avenues, and boulevards, with an anticipated duration of 2.5 hours. This represents one of the countless opportunities within Reyes’s exhibition concept to demonstrate that movement and bodily involvement are still viable means of expression.
