Saint Laurent Rive Droite, in a unique collaboration with Gio Ponti Archives and Fundación Anala y Armando Planchart, held a distinctive exhibition at Chiostri Di San Simpliciano in Milan. Curated by Anthony Vaccarello, the exhibition draws visitors with the extraordinary collection of plates housed in the historically rich Chiostri di San Simpliciano.
In 1953, in Venezuela, Anala and Armando Planchart commissioned the visionary Italian architect Gio Ponti to construct a groundbreaking villa atop Caracas’s highest hill. To embody their modernist aspirations, Ponti envisioned a residence that radiated lightness and elegance, adorned with creative designs, vibrant colors, and unobstructed views, and housed collections of orchids and selected artworks.
For the interior decoration of Villa Planchart, Ponti engaged distinguished Italian craftsmen, including the Florentine manufacturer Ginori 1735, where he served as the artistic director. Ponti meticulously created a series of porcelain dinnerware adorned with symbols and patterns of the villa, showcasing his artistic prowess and attention to detail, and paying homage to the Plancharts with repeated motifs of the letter “A” and symbols such as the sun, crescent moon, and North Star.
In homage to this rich heritage, Saint Laurent Rive Droite collaborates with Ginori 1735 to reissue 12 original plates from the Villa Planchart Segnaposto series designed by Gio Ponti in 1957. These exquisite decorative porcelain plates, hand-painted in the Ginori 1735 factory in Italy, epitomize timeless elegance and artistic refinement.
The exhibition promises a journey that intertwines art, architecture, and timeless design, celebrating the enduring legacy of Gio Ponti’s visionary creations.
