Bottega Veneta, in collaboration with Cassina and the Le Corbusier Foundation, showcased an exceptional installation named “On the Rocks” during Milan Design Week. Hosted at the Palazzo San Fedele in Milan, this presentation marked a significant fusion of design and craftsmanship. Under the creative direction of Matthieu Blazy, the narrative of the installation revolved around the LC14 Tabouret Cabanon, an iconic piece by Le Corbusier that showcases the exquisite artistry of Cassina’s carpentry workshop.
“On the Rocks” introduced a customized version of the LC14 Tabouret, initially designed by Matthieu Blazy for the Bottega Veneta Winter 24 runway, along with a new limited-edition tribute product crafted using Bottega Veneta’s signature leather techniques. The wooden version displayed a unique charred wood technique, influenced by traditional Japanese craftsmanship, enhancing both durability and the inherent beauty of the wood grain.
The LC14 Tabouret is a masterpiece of minimalism. This iconic piece was inspired by a rudimentary wooden whisky crate found by Le Corbusier in the rocks beneath Le Cabanon, characterized by its simplicity, refinement, and adaptability. Its design features exquisite dovetail joints, highlighting the seamless connection of solid wood components, while the rectangular openings facilitate easy movement.
Complementing the wooden version is the leather variant, available in four captivating colors: red, yellow, blue, and green ash. Each piece is meticulously woven using Bottega Veneta’s Intreccio technique in the House’s artisanal workshop in Montebello. Adorned with colored paint using a unique brushstroke technique, followed by a black paint application and selectively removed to give a textured finish, each piece is truly one-of-a-kind. With only 60 leather versions and 100 wooden versions available for purchase, exclusivity is guaranteed.
