This summer, LVMH presents a unique journey where art, sports, and Olympic values converge, through the participation of its brands Berluti, Dior, Guerlain, Louis Vuitton, La Samaritaine, and the Louis Vuitton Foundation. In anticipation of and during the Paris 2024 Olympics, these iconic brands gather in Paris to host a series of sports-themed exhibitions and artistic creations within their historic and emblematic buildings in Paris.
At the heart of the Cultural Olympiad for Paris 2024 is Maison Berluti, which has designed the uniforms for the French team for the opening ceremonies of the 2024 Paris Olympics and Paralympics. For this project, Berluti collaborates with artist Mathieu Forget, capturing unique self-portraits of French Olympic athletes.
Mathieu Forget, a French dancer, photographer, and artist known for his depiction of movement, has created a series of photographs capturing the intersection of Berluti with the Olympics and Paralympics; both the artist and Olympic athletes are adorned in exclusive attire by Maison Berluti. Across 16 photographs, he meticulously arranges a mirroring game between the athletes, their training spaces, and cultural venues. Forget seeks a sense of displacement, much like his jumps convey a feeling of anti-gravity, aiming to capture the essence of the athletes while creating a vanishing point. For instance, French fencing champion Enzo Lefort is photographed in his fencing attire, focused as if before a match, not in a fencing hall but sitting on a bench at the Petit Palais museum. All images in the series revolve around this concept, capturing the elegance of French sports.
Mathieu Forget also highlights the dance element present in all Olympic and Paralympic disciplines: from fencing to athletics, swimming, racquet sports, and notably breakdancing, this collaboration is a tribute to the sport and its aesthetic dimension.
The collaboration between Berluti and Mathieu Forget perfectly showcases the enrichment of art, fashion, and sports, creating works that celebrate both the body and the spirit.
