ALAN VEGA’s “CESSPOOL SAINTS” Exhibited at GALERIE LAURENT GODIN

From May 16 to July 27, 2024, Galerie Laurent Godin is proud to present the new exhibition “Cesspool Saints,” featuring the visual art of Alan Vega, an influential American rock musician and visual artist best known as the frontman of the electronic proto-punk duo Suicide, considered pioneers of the punk rock movement.

This project is a collaborative effort with musician, producer, and poet Jared Artaud (The Vacant Lots), who serves as the co-curator of the exhibition, and Liz Lamere, Vega’s partner in life and creativity for over thirty years. Lamere’s ongoing trust and involvement have been crucial to the exhibition’s realization.

“Cesspool Saints” coincides with the release of the new album “Insurrection,” an album of previously unreleased tracks by the Brooklyn native, produced and mixed by Jared Artaud and Liz Lamere. Both are dedicated to preserving, producing, and sharing Alan Vega and Suicide’s rare or unreleased recordings and sound materials with the public.

The exhibition will feature Vega’s iconic “Light Sculptures,” previously unseen “Boxer Paintings,” and unique collages known as “Ransom Notes.” Additionally, the exhibition will include “Lottery Tickets,” portraits from the artist’s sketchbooks and notes, and other never-before-exhibited paintings and works on paper. These pieces showcase the revolutionary artist’s depth and unparalleled vision in both music and visual art.

“Cesspool Saints” offers audiences an opportunity to explore Alan Vega’s multifaceted creativity, highlighting his significant contributions to contemporary art and music. This exhibition is a profound homage to Vega’s legacy, showcasing his innovative spirit and the enduring impact of his work.
